YOUTH AND FAMILIES

At Good Shepherd, youth and families have the opportunity to be part of one of the best youth ministries in the Episcopal Diocese of Hawaiʻi.  The youth and young adults are engaged to live in a community of faith and to become more involved in a spiritual life. Activities include social interaction, leadership skills, and building a community with their peers and adult leaders.

Developing Young Leaders
Good Shepherd strongly believes in providing its youth with the experience of attending programs sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii such as God Camp, the Provincial Youth Event, and the Episcopal Youth Event.  Good Shepherd takes pride in the development of its youth to become leaders in the Diocese and other churches throughout the Diocese.

Sunday School
Sunday School for youth is provided during the 9:00 a.m. service.  A team of trained and dedicated Sunday School teachers lead the discussion on the day's Lessons and Gospel.  There are three classes, based on their age group:  Pre K to 4th grade; 5th grade to 8th grade; and 9th to 12th grades.

Vacation Bible School
During the summer, a week-long (and free) evening Vacation Bible School is conducted.  Under the direction of a dedicated faculty, the youth receive religious instruction, do arts and crafts, play games, and develop leadership skills.  At the conclusion of the week, the youth get together for a Parish picnic.

Dance Troupe
The youth of Good Shepherd also have the opportunity to perform as part of the Filipino Folk Dance Troupe, which began in 1972 under the leadership of the late Nancy Andres, who brought the troupe to the West Coast where they performed at Disneyland, Canada, and other cities.  The troupe continues to be taught by Alfredo and Bessy Evangelista.
