Your Wedding at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church

Good Shepherd Episcopal Church is a beautiful place for a wedding! The tropical gardens, stained glass, the antique koa wood altar and pulpit, the vestments and the traditional setting make for the best of the two worlds of a familiar parish church environment and the exotic tropical beauty of Maui. There has been an Episcopal church on this site in the heart of old Wailuku town since 1866. The current Gothic building with a bell tower was built in 1910 and is one of the oldest reinforced concrete buildings in Hawaii. Inside the church hang flags representing the many nationalities that have been a part of this parish since its beginning.

The Sacred Nature of the Place and Service

Good Shepherd Church asks you to respect our customs and traditions in the use of our church. We hold this to be a sacred place and it should be treated with reverence. A service to bless the union of two persons in heart, body and soul is “not to be entered into lightly or unadvisedly, but reverently, deliberately and in accordance with the purposes for which it was instituted by God.” Guests who come to witness a service are also giving and receiving blessings by their presence, and are establishing a relationship of support with the wedding couple.

Photographs and Videos

The wedding service is primarily a religious service. Photos may be taken, but not in ways that interfere with that primary purpose. Photographers and videographers will do their work under the direction of the priest performing the ceremony, respecting the sacred nature of the church. Posed pictures may be taken after the ceremony. The parish can provide a list of photographers.

Music

GoodShepherdChurch has a fine Rodgers electronic organ. The organist may be available for a fee.We also have a list of other qualified musicians.

Church and Grounds

GoodShepherdChurch requires that wedding parties leave the church and grounds in the same or better conditions than when the party arrives. To this end, no rice, bird seed, or glitter will be thrown.
