Please be our Guest for Holy Week and Easter services
Maundy Thursday, March 29th, will be observed by a 7:00 p.m. service. This service celebrates the gift of the Holy Eucharist and the example of humble service given by Christ when he washed the feet of his disciples. At the end of the service, the altar is stripped, as we leave the church bare of ornament for Good Friday.
Good Friday, March 30th we will do The Stations of the Cross at 6:00pm. The commemoration of the death of our Lord is the most solemn day of the church year. At 7:00pm we will hold a service, which will include the Veneration of the Cross and the Solemn Liturgy. Communion will be offered from the Reserved Sacrament.
On Saturday evening, March 30th, the Great Vigil of Easter begins at 8:00 p.m. A large candle is first lit from a new fire which has been kindled in the darkened church. Early Christians used this symbol, seeing in the bringing of light into a dark place a symbol of the Resurrection. The first part of the service remembers the calling, testing, forming of the people of the Old Covenant, Israel. Those great events become sacramental signs moving toward the covenant which is to come in the death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. To participate in this liturgical enactment of the events of our salvation history, both in the Old Covenant and the New, is to participate in those events themselves. This is the first Eucharist of Easter. Please bring your bells to ring during the service hymns.
Hawai'ian Sunrise Service
6:00 -6:30 Am
As the sun rises Easter morning, April 1st, we will gather on the lawn in front of the church. There we will hail the rising sun with the Kani Ka Pu, the sounding of the conch shell. We will sing hymns and choruses of thanks to the new Easter morn. We will chant an oli, a traditional Hawaiian chant, and we will sing and chant the praise of the Risen Lord. The 7:00 am Easter Eucharist follows.
