Clergy and Staff of Good Shepherd
Rev. Craig Vance is our new Rector. He is a Canadian who comes from the Diocese of New Westminster (Vancouver). He was the rector of Christ the Redeemer in Surrey for 9 years. He ministered for two summers in St. George’s Gwai-i (Kingcome Inlet, a remote Kwa’kwa’la First Nations Village) while studying theology. He also served in the diocese of New Westminster as Church and Society Officer. He studied theology at Vancouver School of Theology and Regent College. Before ordination he worked in social justice advocacy, affordable housing development and community economic development. His interests include kayaking, cycling, snorkelling, hiking, cross country skiing, photography and video. He enjoys playing guitar and singing. He also collects foreign languages.
Rev. Linda Decker is a priest associate and was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, attended college in Massachusetts, married in 1957 and went to England while her husband John studied for his doctorate in physics. In 1981, she was graduated from Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts with a Master of Divinity degree. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Maui, where she has served as a pastoral counselor in various settings. After many years in lay ministry at Good Shepherd, she sought Holy Orders and in December 2010 was ordained to the priesthood. She is also a rancher in New Mexico and has published a book on Maui history.
John A. Hau’oli Tomoso, is our new priest associate at Good Shepherd.
He is also executive director of Tri-isle Resource Conservation and Development Council, Inc.
Born and raised on Maui, Hau’oli earned a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology from the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1975. He earned his M.S.W. from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa in 1977. He became a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW) in 1981. Awarded a Teaching and Research fellowship in Public Administration at the University of Wyoming at Laramie, Hau’oli won the John P. Ellbogen Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award for 1983. Since 1976, he has practiced as a Social Worker in various public, private and non-profit sector settings and methods. His most recently acquired practice modalities are in public health and resource development. He has maintained a private practice since 1985. He was ordained to the Priesthood on July 31, 2016. Married to Susan D. Tomoso (nee Brabeck) since July 9, 1977, they are parents of two and grandparents to three.
